Viktor Orbán, the Hungarian Prime Minister, has established himself as a thorn in the side of the Brussels Liberal-Globalist establishment. He is often seen as the lone warrior against what many perceive as the EU’s dangerously misguided policies.
Once, he famously described the European Union as “a contemporary parody of the Soviet Union” and asserted that “there is not enough money in the world to compel us to accept mass migration and expose our children to LGBTQ activists.”
With the political renaissance of his long-time ally, Donald J. Trump, and a noticeable rise in populist sentiments across Europe, Orbán seems emboldened to enforce his brand of ‘common sense’ governance, much to the chagrin of mainstream media outlets.
On April 14, Hungary’s parliament took a significant step by approving a constitutional amendment that empowers the government to prohibit public events organized by LGBTQ communities.
According to the Associated Press:
“The amendment, which required a supermajority, passed with 140 votes in favor and 21 against, primarily along party lines, thanks to the ruling Fidesz-KDNP coalition led by populist Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.”
“This amendment asserts that the rights of children to develop morally, physically, and spiritually take precedence over other rights, including the right to peacefully assemble. Hungary’s controversial ‘child protection’ legislation now prohibits the ‘depiction or promotion’ of homosexuality to minors under 18.”
Hungary’s constitutional amendment is now law.
We’re protecting children’s development, affirming that a person is born either male or female, and standing firm against drugs and foreign interference.
In Hungary, common sense matters.

“The amendment codifies a law that was expedited through parliament in March, banning public events by LGBTQ+ communities, including the well-attended Pride event in Budapest.”
“This law also grants authorities the power to utilize facial recognition technology to identify individuals attending banned events like Budapest Pride, with penalties reaching up to 200,000 Hungarian forints (approximately $546).”

“The amendment further enshrines the recognition of two sexes, male and female, augmenting a previous amendment that prohibited same-sex adoption by clearly stating that a mother is a woman and a father is a man.”
Predictably, the Associated Press has expressed dismay over this legislative move, arguing that it “creates a constitutional foundation for denying the gender identities of transgender individuals” and “overlooks the existence of intersex persons.”

Government spokesperson Zoltán Kovács shared on the social media platform X:
“BREAKING: Hungary’s National Assembly has passed the 15th amendment to the Fundamental Law. These sweeping changes prioritize children’s rights, affirm biological gender in law, protect the right to cash payments, and implement new safeguards for national citizenship and community self-defense. The amendment also curtails government emergency powers unless supported by a supermajority and lays the groundwork for actions against foreign-funded networks perceived as threats to sovereignty. With this vote, the governing parties assert they are reinforcing Hungary’s identity, stability, and constitutional clarity.”
