Matthew Chambers, a ceramic artist based in St. Lawrence on the Isle of Wight, has been captivating audiences with his mesmerizing sculptures for over a decade. His concentric vessels, meticulously crafted and nested within each other, create an illusion of infinite depth and complexity. Each piece is thrown on a wheel, showcasing Chambers’ skill and precision in working with clay.

While Chambers initially focused on creating inner forms that twist and descend into smaller vessels, his recent work has shifted towards outer expansion. The aligned forms now swell outward and upward, exploring new patterns and shapes. The artist sees each sculpture as an opportunity to delve into specific motifs and challenge the limits of spherical shapes.

After a busy 18 months of exhibitions, Chambers is taking a step back to experiment and innovate in his studio. His latest creations will be showcased at the Collect Art Fair in February 2025 with Cavaliero Finn. In the meantime, art enthusiasts can explore more of his sculptures on his website and Instagram.

Chambers’ sculptures, with their intricate details and dynamic forms, are a testament to his mastery of the medium. From the twisting and turning of concentric shapes to the outward expansion of new patterns, each piece invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world of ceramic artistry. As Chambers continues to push the boundaries of his craft, his work remains a mesmerizing blend of skill, creativity, and innovation.
