Former federal judge J. Michael Luttig, known for his conservative views, raised concerns on Monday regarding a recent statement made by Donald Trump. Trump remarked that he is unsure if he is required to uphold the U.S. Constitution, prompting Luttig to label it as “perhaps the most important words ever spoken by a president of the United States.”
Luttig, a vocal critic of Trump’s undemocratic rhetoric, shared his thoughts with MSNBC’s Nicolle Wallace, stating: “The president always speaks his mind with clarity, even if the content is confusing. His words may be perplexing, but his confusion is evident.”
While some may dismiss Trump’s words as mere blunders, Luttig believes otherwise. He is convinced that Trump genuinely questions his obligation to uphold the Constitution as interpreted by the Supreme Court.
Describing Trump’s stance as “constitutional denialism,” Luttig argues that it challenges the Court’s authority in interpreting the Constitution.
Luttig emphasized the significance of Trump’s beliefs on this matter, asserting that it is a crucial issue of our time.
