BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
This week, our Nation proudly commemorates the 238th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution—the foundational document that initiated our bold journey in self-governance and established what many consider the most exceptional Republic ever envisioned. During this Constitution Week, we renew our commitment to the vital bonds of American citizenship while fortifying our cherished customs, culture, heritage, and values. As we edge closer to the remarkable milestone of 250 years of American Independence, we reaffirm our allegiance to our magnificent flag and all that it symbolizes. In doing so, we vow to respect, uphold, and defend our Constitution against all adversaries, both foreign and domestic.
When the Founding Fathers convened at Independence Hall in Philadelphia in 1787, they transformed the profound truths expressed in our Declaration of Independence into a structured system of governance. They enshrined the belief that rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are bestowed not by government, but by a higher power, into our Constitution. This pivotal document established our governmental framework, immortalizing the essential American ideals of federalism, the rule of law, and the separation of powers. Guided by these enduring principles, our Nation has thrived through its dedication to justice, sovereignty, and the common good of its citizens. Today, these ideals and our constitutional structure remain the foundation of our Nation and the source of our enduring strength.
Our predecessors understood that the privileges of citizenship are accompanied by responsibilities—among them, a love for our country, dedication to our fellow citizens, and a resolute commitment to preserving our legacy of freedom. From the dawn of our national narrative, responsible citizenship has entailed obeying our laws, honoring our flag, and safeguarding our homeland and constitutional way of life from those who would undermine it, whether from within or without.
On my first day in office, I signed an Executive Order to Protect the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship, reinforcing that citizenship is a profound bond between individuals and their country.
In my ongoing efforts to uphold the value of American citizenship, I am actively pushing back against those who seek to undermine our history and tarnish our Founding principles. This includes advocating for an accurate portrayal of our Nation’s history in museums, revitalizing American education while empowering parents, and abolishing radical “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” initiatives within the Federal Government.
Moreover, I have taken decisive steps to protect the dignity of the American flag—the emblem under which countless individuals have bravely fought and sacrificed—by signing an Executive Order to prosecute acts of desecration against our cherished Stars and Stripes.
As we approach the 250th anniversary of our Independence next year, we recommit to cherishing our constitutional heritage, striving for a more perfect Union, and creating a future that honors our values, celebrates our traditions, and unites America as one glorious Nation under God.
The Congress, through a joint resolution on February 29, 1952 (36 U.S.C. 106), designated September 17 as “Constitution Day and Citizenship Day,” and by a subsequent resolution on August 2, 1956 (36 U.S.C. 108), requested that the President proclaim the week beginning September 17 and ending September 23 of each year as “Constitution Week.”
NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD J. TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim the week of September 17 through September 23, 2025, as Constitution Week. Throughout this week, I urge all educators, school leaders, and local officials to enlighten America’s students about the rights and responsibilities of citizenship within our constitutional framework. In doing so, we will ensure that our quest for “a more perfect Union” continues to thrive for generations to come.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this eighteenth day of September, in the year of our Lord two thousand twenty-five, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and fiftieth.
DONALD J. TRUMP
