Chicago police have announced that they have identified the individual responsible for a shooting that took place inside the White Palace Grill in the South Loop last summer. The incident occurred in the early hours of August 23 while delegates attending the Democratic National Convention were present at the all-night diner.
According to police reports, a 42-year-old man was exiting the restaurant located at 1159 South Canal when a man dressed in a security outfit opened fire, hitting him in the back, both arms, and hand.
In the days following the shooting, the Chicago Police Department released surveillance images of the suspected gunman and the silver Ford Focus that he drove.
Authorities have now identified 31-year-old Delvin Bryant as the shooter. However, Bryant has not been charged with shooting anyone. Instead, he is facing charges of being a repeat felon in possession of a firearm.
Further details regarding the case are expected to emerge once Bryant appears in court. The decision not to charge him with the shooting implies that prosecutors may believe he had valid reasons for discharging his weapon.
