Hamata Hampton and Rashod Louis (Chicago Police Department)

Two 18-Year-Olds Arrested for Series of Armed Robberies in Chicago

CHICAGO — Two 18-year-old men have been taken into custody after committing three armed robberies on Tuesday afternoon. The suspects, Rashod Louis and Hamata Hampton, were apprehended by police who successfully tracked them down by following pings from one of the victims’ phones.

Suspects Charged with Armed Robbery

Judge Caroline Glennon-Goodman has ordered the detention of Rashod Louis and Hamata Hampton on four counts of armed robbery.

Series of Robberies

The first robbery took place around 1:50 p.m. in the 5700 block of South Hamlin, where two armed men stole a wallet and iPhone from a 20-year-old man. Following that, at 2:30 p.m., the suspects robbed a 51-year-old man of approximately $850 in the 4800 block of South Kedvale. The final incident occurred just after 3 p.m. when a 29-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend were robbed of two phones in the 4300 block of South Whipple.

Police Investigation and Arrest

Authorities were able to determine that the robbers were traveling in a red Nissan with a green or teal object visible through the front windshield. By tracking the movement of one of the victim’s phones, police located the suspects in the South Side of Chicago.

Ultimately, officers found a red Nissan Altima with a teal decoration on the dashboard parked near the phone’s last known location in the 10000 block of South La Salle. Surveillance footage from a nearby gas station captured two men parking and exiting the vehicle just before the police arrived.

Hampton and Louis were seen emerging from a nearby residence and entering the car. Law enforcement stopped the vehicle and recovered the victims’ phones and other stolen items during pat-down searches of the suspects.

Prior Criminal History

Rashod Louis was already on pretrial release for a misdemeanor case at the time of the robberies. He had been arrested on November 2 for battery and possession of a replica firearm after allegedly shooting a man with a paintball gun in the 5800 block of South Bishop. The case is still pending.
