In Defense of Unhinged Rhetoric: A Closer Look at Taylor Lorenz
Just last evening, the discourse surrounding the media’s role in shaping public opinion sparked a critical debate, pointing out the urgent need to filter out those who may not be fit for the news analysis arena. Enter journalist Taylor Lorenz, a prime example of this unsettling trend.
During an appearance on Piers Morgan’s program, Lorenz found herself in hot water as she attempted to rationalize the chants of “Death to America” and “Death to the IDF” that echoed through the Glastonbury Music Festival. Itâs a curious choice for a journalist to defend such incendiary statements, raising the question of whether she should remain in the news business at all. The Washington Post, at least, has come to its senses and parted ways with her; perhaps the rest of the media could take a hint.
It seems that the time has come to reconsider who we allow to influence public narratives.
FOX News reports:
Former Washington Post journalist Taylor Lorenz engaged in a contentious exchange with Piers Morgan and fellow panelists on Monday’s show after she staunchly defended a UK bandâs chant of “Death to the IDF” at a recent festival. Lorenz suggested that the crowd’s anger was justified, attributing it to concerns over “genocide” and encouraged those offended by the band’s remarks to “advocate for the end of the genocide.”
However, Morgan countered her argument, asserting, “They werenât talking about an entity; they were referring to the soldiers. They wanted death to the IDF soldiers.”
Other panelists also dissected Lorenz’s rationale, with Hen Mazzig, a senior fellow at the Tel Aviv Institute, challenging her stance: “If you are advocating against genocide and you donât want people to be killed, how can you simultaneously argue that chants for death deserve context?” Morgan further admonished Lorenz for her unwavering position.
“Taylor, you canât keep saying that. You donât even believe that when youâre saying it. If they said death to the British army, no one would interpret that as a critique of the institution. They would take it as a threat to British soldiers,” he explained.

This is not an isolated incident for Lorenz, who has previously exhibited a penchant for controversial figures, such as accused killer Luigi Mangione. Her track record raises significant concerns about her judgment on critical issues.
