During a recent rally in Tempe, Arizona, Donald Trump faced backlash after comparing the United States to “a garbage can” in his latest anti-immigrant tirade.
“We’re like a garbage can for the world. That’s what’s happened. That’s what’s happened to our … we’re like a garbage can,” the former president and current GOP nominee stated on Thursday.
Trump insisted, “You know, it’s the first time I’ve ever said that. Every time I come up and talk about what they’ve done to our country, I get angrier and angrier. First time I’ve ever said garbage can, but you know what? It’s a very accurate description.”
Trump has also pledged to conduct mass deportations if he is reelected, and has previously stated that immigration is “poisoning the blood” of America. His first term in office was marked by a strong anti-immigration stance.
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci criticized Trump’s comments as “more fascist language.”
MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell sarcastically pointed out that Trump was the “1st presidential candidate to call USA ‘a garbage can’.”
Many others expressed outrage over Trump’s words.
