Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have exciting news for anime fans as they gear up to release a new theatrical installment from the highly successful “Jujutsu Kaisen” franchise. Announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, the companies have acquired select international rights to “Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie,” a compilation film set to hit international theaters this summer.

The film, which was recently released in Japan and saw a successful opening, revisits the beloved “Hidden Inventory / Premature Death” arc, delving into the younger days of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto during their time as students and sorcerers. This re-edited version features newly remixed sound and serves as a cinematic refresher following the conclusion of the anime’s second season in 2023.

Crunchyroll and Sony will be distributing the film in select territories across Europe, Latin America, and Australia, offering both subtitled and dubbed versions for viewers.

“Jujutsu Kaisen” has become a powerhouse in the world of anime since its debut in 2020. The series quickly gained popularity and has been a massive success for studio MAPPA and publisher Shueisha. The franchise’s previous feature film, “Jujutsu Kaisen 0,” was a box office hit, grossing over $188 million worldwide. This new compilation film serves as a bridge between the main storyline and offers a deeper look into the characters’ pasts.

The upcoming film acts as a narrative prequel, taking audiences back to 2006 to witness the events that led to the fractured bond between Gojo and Geto. The mission to protect and eventually eliminate the Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai, sets the stage for their ideological conflict.

Crunchyroll, in partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment and Aniplex Inc., continues to make its mark in the world of anime cinema. The streamer-distributor has been instrumental in bringing anime to global audiences and has supported some of the highest-grossing anime films in U.S. box office history.

“Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie” marks the first release from the franchise since the conclusion of Season 2 and is expected to appeal to both longtime fans and newcomers alike.
