Exciting Season Opener for Colorado Buffaloes

The Colorado Buffaloes kicked off their season with a thrilling 84-78 victory over Montana State at the CU Events Center. The win marked the 16th consecutive home opener victory for head coach Tad Boyle and extended their overall home-opening win streak to 18 games.

Key Points

  • CU shot .625 in the second half, outrebounded Montana State 33-26, and committed only nine turnovers.
  • Freshman guard Isaiah Johnson had an outstanding debut, scoring 24 points in the second half.
  • Sixth-year center Elijah Malone recorded a double-double with 10 points and a career-high 13 rebounds.

Game Highlights

Isaiah Johnson stole the show in the second half, scoring all 24 of his points after halftime. He showcased his skills and composure, reminiscent of his close family friend, basketball Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade.

Despite trailing by seven points in the second half, the Buffs rallied behind Johnson’s stellar performance to secure the win. Johnson’s clutch free throws and three-pointers were instrumental in the comeback.

Montana State’s Patrick McMahon put up a valiant effort, scoring 24 points and nearly leading the Bobcats to an upset victory.

Upcoming Game

CU will face Eastern Washington next as they continue their season-opening homestand. The game is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Overall, it was a hard-fought win for the Buffaloes, showcasing the talent and determination of the team. With promising performances from Johnson and Malone, CU looks poised for an exciting season ahead.
