A shocking incident unfolded in Queens on Thursday afternoon when a 75-year-old cyclist was hit in the face by a stray bullet during a broad daylight shooting. The violent episode also resulted in a 14-year-old girl getting wounded, with both victims being in stable condition following the mayhem. The shooting took place on 243 Street and Weller Avenue in Rosedale, as a pair of scooter-riding gunmen opened fire, targeting a 17-year-old rival but accidentally hitting his girlfriend and the elderly man instead.
The elderly cyclist, who was collecting cans on his bike at the time, was left “dripping with blood from his face,” as witnesses recounted the terrifying scene. He urgently called for an ambulance while surrounded by concerned onlookers. The shooting sent shockwaves through the neighborhood, with one resident expressing fear for their elderly grandmother’s safety in the wake of the gunfire.
Fortunately, the injured parties were quickly attended to and are now in stable condition. Police were able to locate the scooter used in the shooting and apprehend three teenage suspects, aged 13, 14, and 15. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing gun violence plaguing communities, particularly in broad daylight scenarios.
