10:50 AM PT — D’Angelo‘s family issued a heartfelt statement after his passing … “The bright light in our lives has dimmed … After a courageous and extended battle with cancer, we are devastated to announce the passing of Michael D’Angelo Archer, beloved as D’Angelo to his fans worldwide, who left this world on October 14, 2025. While we mourn his loss, we cherish the beautiful memories and the rich musical legacy he has created. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time and invite everyone to celebrate his life and the extraordinary music he gifted us.”
The Grammy-winning R&B soul sensation D’Angelo has succumbed to pancreatic cancer … as reported by TMZ.
The iconic “Brown Sugar” singer-songwriter passed away early Tuesday in New York City, per sources close to his family and former manager Kedar Massenburg. Though D’Angelo kept his cancer diagnosis private, he had been undergoing treatment for several months.
D’Angelo was a unique talent, collaborating with notable names such as Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg, and Q-Tip. He made a remarkable entrance into the music scene in 1995 with his debut album, “Brown Sugar.”
Throughout his career, D’Angelo won 4 Grammy Awards, including Best R&B Album for “Voodoo” in 2001 and “Black Messiah” in 2016. He also received accolades for Best R&B Song in 2016 for “Really Love” and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for the hit “Untitled (How Does It Feel).”
Even prior to his Grammy recognition, “How Does It Feel” made a lasting impact on the music industry and captivated audiences, thanks in part to its iconic music video featuring the artist in a minimalist, striking visual.

Recently, Raphael Saadiq shared on the “Rolling Stone Music Now” podcast that D’Angelo was eager to release new music, stating, “He’s really excited … He’s currently working on six new pieces and seems incredibly energized.”
The artist leaves behind two sons and a daughter. His first son’s mother is singer Angie Stone, who faced tragedy earlier this year after a fatal car accident.
D’Angelo was 51 years old.
Rest in Peace
