Daniel Radcliffe recently made headlines after revealing on “Good Morning America” that he reached out to Dominic McLaughlin, the child star cast as the new Harry Potter in HBO’s upcoming television series reboot. Radcliffe, who famously portrayed the iconic role in Warner Bros.’ eight-film franchise from 2001 to 2011, shared that he wrote a heartfelt letter to McLaughlin to offer his support and well wishes.
In his interview, Radcliffe expressed his thoughts on the new series, stating, “I wouldn’t say that anyone who is going to play Harry has to [reach out to me], but I know a few people working on the production. I wrote to Dominic and sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back.” The actor emphasized that he didn’t want to overshadow the new cast members but simply wanted to convey his hope for them to have an even better experience than he did while filming the original movies.
Radcliffe further shared his sentiments about the young actors taking on the beloved characters, including Arabella Stanton as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron. He expressed his admiration for their talent and youthfulness, stating, “I just see these pictures of him and the other kids and I just want to hug them. They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh it’s crazy I was doing that at that age.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet and I hope they’re having a great time.”
The new cast of HBO’s “Harry Potter” series also includes Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Alessia Leoni as Parvati Patil, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, and Amos Kitson as Dudley Dursley, among others. To accommodate the young actors’ education, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden reportedly built a temporary school on set to ensure they can continue their studies while filming the series, which is expected to cover one of J.K. Rowling’s books each season over the next near-decade.
Fans can look forward to the debut of the highly anticipated “Harry Potter” series on HBO and HBO Max in 2027. Radcliffe’s interview on “Good Morning America” provides a glimpse into his support for the new cast members and his excitement for the continuation of the magical world of Harry Potter.
