AMC Renews “Dark Winds” for Fourth Season

AMC has officially renewed the hit series “Dark Winds” for a fourth season, much to the delight of fans. This announcement comes just before the highly anticipated premiere of Season 3 on March 9.

Set in the 1970s, the show follows Navajo Tribal Police lieutenant Joe Leaphorn, portrayed by the talented Zahn McClarnon. Alongside officers Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon) and Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten), Leaphorn tackles violent crimes on their reservation. Season 3 will continue the story six months after the events of Season 2, with Leaphorn and Chee investigating the disappearance of two boys and Manuelito uncovering a smuggling conspiracy while settling into her new role with the Border Patrol.

Excitingly, McClarnon will make his directorial debut in Season 4, set to air in 2026.

The show, based on Tony Hillerman’s “Leaphorn & Chee” books, was created by Graham Roland with John Wirth serving as showrunner. The impressive list of executive producers includes Roland, Wirth, McClarnon, Robert Redford, George R.R. Martin, Chris Eyre, Tina Elmo, Jim Chory, Vince Gerardis, and Anne Hillerman.

Dan McDermott, president of entertainment and AMC Studios for AMC Networks, expressed his excitement for the future of “Dark Winds,” praising the cast, creative team, and loyal fans. The show has garnered a strong following and even secured a spot in the Top 10 on Netflix for a month last fall.

McClarnon shared his enthusiasm for returning to the role of Joe Leaphorn and making his directorial debut on a show that holds such significance for him. He expressed gratitude towards AMC Networks for their support and dedication to the series.
