The chilling tale of survival from Khalil Wheeler-Weaver’s deadly rampage has resurfaced, shedding light on a case mishandled by law enforcement. The new Hulu crime series, “Murder Has Two Faces,” delves into the harrowing experience of the only known survivor, Tiffany Taylor, who was kidnapped and handcuffed inside the killer’s car.
In 2016, Taylor agreed to meet Wheeler-Weaver again, six months after their initial encounter. However, this meeting took a dark turn as Wheeler-Weaver donned a ski mask and black gloves, driving away with Taylor in her friend’s car. Moments later, Taylor found herself unconscious, handcuffed, and duct-taped by her assailant, who proceeded to sexually assault her.
In a desperate bid for survival, Taylor mentioned the incriminating evidence stored in her phone back at the hotel. Wheeler-Weaver, momentarily loosening her restraints, accompanied her back to the hotel. Upon arrival, Taylor managed to escape to her room, leaving Wheeler-Weaver locked out. Despite her ordeal, the police response left much to be desired.
“When the police finally arrived, I told them that a ‘guy tried to kill me,'” Taylor recounted. However, the response she received was far from satisfactory, with the officer questioning her injuries and disbelief evident in their interaction.
Following Taylor’s brave escape, Wheeler-Weaver went on to claim the lives of three more victims, including Sarah Butler, Robin West, and Joanne Brown, using the social networking app Tagged to lure them in. Three years later, Wheeler-Weaver was convicted of all three murders and sentenced to 160 years in prison.
Despite the closure brought by Wheeler-Weaver’s conviction, Taylor’s struggle for justice continued. In a shocking development, Wheeler-Weaver was charged with the murder of 15-year-old Mawa Doumbia in 2023, refusing to take responsibility for his heinous crimes and instead alleging a conspiracy against him.
The tale of Tiffany Taylor serves as a stark reminder of the failures within the criminal justice system and the resilience of survivors in seeking justice. As her story unfolds in “Murder Has Two Faces,” the spotlight shines on the untold narratives of those affected by senseless violence, urging us to confront the flaws within our systems and strive for a safer, more just society.
