David Ortiz has not moved past the recent performance of Yankees pitcher Cam Schlittler against his beloved Red Sox, as he humorously pointed out that Schlittler’s name reminds him of “Hitler.”
Big Papi threw shade after the Yankees secured their position in the postseason with a thrilling comeback against the Blue Jays on Tuesday, paving the way for a Game 4 showdown.
As Schlittler prepares to pitch in the critical match, Ortiz sought the input of Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, and Kevin Burkhardt on how to pronounce his name.
After they all confirmed the correct pronunciation, Ortiz humorously noted that he interprets it differently, humorously invoking references to the most infamous figure in history.
This led to laughter in the studio, with Jeter swiftly calling for a commercial break to prevent the moment from escalating (a wise decision).
Looking ahead, Ortiz’s co-hosts suggested that a simpler name, like “Cam,” might be a better way to refer to Schlittler, which seemed like a prudent suggestion.

In Game 3 of the Wild Card, Schlittler delivered a stellar performance, pitching eight innings, achieving 12 strikeouts, and allowing only five hits against the Red Sox.
TMZ Sports had previously spoken to Ortiz about the Red Sox’s loss to Schlittler and the Yankees, so it’s understandable why he feels down. Yet, relating that sadness to historical figures is another level!
