David Schwimmer Calls on Elon Musk to Ban Kanye West from X Platform
“Friends” star David Schwimmer recently took to Instagram to urge Elon Musk to ban Kanye West from X following a series of antisemitic tweets posted by the rapper on the platform. Schwimmer expressed his concern over West using the platform to spread hate speech and incite violence against Jews.
In his Instagram post, Schwimmer stated, “We can’t stop a deranged bigot from spewing hate-filled, ignorant bile… but we CAN stop giving him a megaphone, Mr. Musk. Kanye West has 32.7 million followers on your platform, X. That’s twice as many people than the number of Jews in existence. His sick hate speech results in REAL LIFE violence against Jews.”
West’s controversial tweets included statements such as “I’m a Nazi” and “I love Hitler,” with the rapper refusing to apologize for his antisemitic comments. The Anti-Defamation League quickly condemned West’s rant as “a flagrant and unequivocal display of hate,” highlighting the dangerous impact of such rhetoric.
Jonathan A. Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League, emphasized the importance of addressing hate speech, stating, “Words matter. And as we’ve seen too many times before, hateful rhetoric can prompt real-world consequences.” The American Jewish Committee also spoke out against West’s comments, warning of the influence they could have on his millions of followers.
“While some may dismiss his hateful rants, we cannot overlook the dangerous influence they can have on his millions of followers, particularly on social media, where a significant portion of today’s antisemitism thrives,” the AJC stated. “Hate, left unchecked, only multiplies. At a time when antisemitism is skyrocketing to terrifying levels worldwide, Ye is actively endangering Jews. We urge others with a platform like Ye’s – particularly in the entertainment industry – to call out this blatant hatred.”
