“Dawson’s Creek” premiered in 1998 and quickly became a fan favorite, solidifying its place as one of the most popular teen dramas of all time. The show followed the life of Joey Potter, played by Katie Holmes, a tomboy navigating high school following the death of her mother. With the support of her best friend Dawson Leery, played by James Van Der Beek, and his sidekick Pacey Witter, played by Joshua Jackson, Joey faced the challenges of adolescence.

The arrival of Jen Lindley, played by Michelle Williams, a new girl from New York City, added a dynamic element to the group of friends. Created by “Scream” writer Kevin Williamson, the series drew inspiration from his own experiences growing up in a small town.

Throughout its six seasons, “Dawson’s Creek” introduced and bid farewell to several characters. Jen’s grandmother, Grams, played by Mary Beth Peil, remained a constant presence throughout the show. Brother and sister duo Jack and Andie McPhee, portrayed by Kerr Smith and Meredith Monroe, joined the cast in the second season. Dawson’s parents, Mitch and Gale Leery, played by John Wesley Shipp and Mary-Margaret Humes, also played significant roles. In the final two seasons, Busy Philipps joined as Joey’s college roommate, Audrey Liddell.

The show fearlessly tackled important and controversial topics, including airing the first passionate same-sex kiss between two men in 2000. This groundbreaking moment demonstrated the show’s commitment to portraying real-life situations authentically and sensitively.
