A horrifying incident unfolded in Little Rock, Arkansas, as a daycare owner was charged with capital murder for the brutal killing of an 8-month-old infant under her care. Erin Sauls, 23, allegedly slammed the baby’s head into the floor multiple times during a diaper change, leading to the tragic death of the child.
The distressing incident occurred when Sauls, experiencing a headache and frustration, lost control and violently bashed the infant’s head into the hardwood floor. Following the assault, the baby started showing signs of distress, prompting Sauls to offer him a bottle. However, just 15 minutes later, the infant stopped breathing, leading to a frantic call for emergency assistance.
Authorities responded to the scene on Clifton Drive, where they found the baby unresponsive. Despite efforts to revive him during transport to the hospital, the infant, later identified as Elijah Flowerday, succumbed to his injuries, which included a skull fracture and brain bleed.
The devastating loss was deemed a homicide, with Sauls taken into custody after admitting to the vicious attack. The baby’s mother, Trinity Russell, shared that Elijah was in good health when she left him in Sauls’ care that morning, highlighting the shocking and senseless nature of the tragedy.
The grieving family set up a GoFundMe page to help cope with the loss of their beloved baby boy, Elijah. The Flowerday family expressed their profound sorrow and requested support as they navigate through this unimaginable loss.
Sauls appeared in Little Rock District Court and pleaded not guilty to capital murder charges. She is currently held without bond at the Pulaski County jail pending trial.
This heart-wrenching incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vetting childcare providers and ensuring the safety and well-being of children in their care. The community mourns the loss of young Elijah Flowerday, and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.
