The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences is gearing up for the 52nd annual Daytime Emmy Awards, set to take place in October this year, a departure from its usual June schedule. The nominations for various categories are slowly being unveiled, with categories like daytime drama series, daytime talk series, lead actor and actress in a daytime drama series being announced on Wednesday.
Additionally, nominations for instructional series, travel or adventure program, lifestyle program, and instructional/how-to program were also revealed on the same day. The remaining nominations will be disclosed on Thursday, building up the excitement for the big event.
The decision to shift the Daytime Emmys to October was part of NATAS’s realignment of its major shows’ timing. Last month, the News & Documentary Emmys, typically held in the fall, were moved to June. Last year, “General Hospital” clinched the top daytime drama award for the fourth consecutive year. The legendary Dick Van Dyke also made history by winning the 2024 Daytime Emmy award for guest performer in a daytime drama series for his role in “Days of Our Lives” on Peacock, becoming the oldest actor to receive this accolade at the age of 98.
The eligibility window for the 52nd Daytime Emmys was from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, 2024, excluding CBS’s new soap opera “Beyond the Gates,” as it premiered in 2025. This year’s competition sees some notable changes, including new categories like Outstanding Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Program, which recognizes new performers on their first Daytime contract with no prior Daytime Emmy acting nominations.
Furthermore, the Culinary Series category has been split into Outstanding Culinary Instructional Series and Outstanding Culinary Cultural Series, while the Outstanding Travel, Nature, and Adventure category now consists of Outstanding Travel and Adventure Program and Outstanding Nature and Science Program.
NATAS has also introduced a new category called “Outstanding Regional Content in a Daytime Genre,” which is not Emmy-eligible but acknowledges regional program winners in specific categories. Instead of a separate Creative Arts ceremony, this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards will be held at a single event.
NATAS President and CEO Adam Sharp expressed excitement about honoring the exceptional individuals and teams in daytime television, emphasizing the continuous evolution of the Daytime landscape. With new categories recognizing innovative work and a unified ceremony to celebrate the Daytime community, the 52nd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards promises to be a memorable event. Actors like Peter Bergman as Jack Abbott on “The Young and the Restless,” Eric Martsolf as Brady Black on “Days of our Lives,” and Dominic Zamprogna as Dante Falconeri on “General Hospital” have delivered outstanding performances that have kept viewers glued to their screens.
In the category of Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress, the nominees showcase the incredible talent of leading ladies in the industry. Actresses like Sharon Case as Sharon Newman, Eileen Davidson as Ashley Abbott, and Michelle Stafford as Phyllis Summers on “The Young and the Restless,” along with Nancy Lee Grahn as Alexis Davis on “General Hospital” and Laura Wright as Carly Spencer on “General Hospital,” have all delivered stellar performances that have resonated with audiences.
Shifting gears to the lifestyle and instructional programs, the nominees for Outstanding Lifestyle Program and Outstanding Instructional/How-To Program are equally diverse and engaging. Shows like “George to the Rescue” on NBC, “Hack Your Health: The Secrets of Your Gut” on Netflix, and “Homegrown” on Magnolia Network have provided viewers with valuable insights and entertainment.
