As the dust settles, one must ponder whether Representative Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) will indeed face any legal repercussions for an alleged unprovoked confrontation with a journalist, a situation that has drawn the scrutiny of the interim United States Attorney for the District of Columbia.
According to reports from , last Tuesday, Charles Downs, a correspondent for Loomer Unleashed, attempted to question Crockett about some controversial remarks she made regarding Tesla and its CEO, Elon Musk, as she ambled down a hallway. Initially, Crockett seemed to dismiss Downs, engaging in laughter and conversation with her colleague, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN).
However, Downs persisted, seeking clarification on her anti-Tesla comments. Near the end of the encounter, Crockett appeared to lose her composure and made a grab for Downs’s phone.

During this incident, Crockett’s long fingernails reportedly left marks on Downs’s hand, raising questions about whether this constitutes an assault, even if unintentional.
In a follow-up, Laura Loomer expressed her outrage, calling for House Speaker Mike Johnson to censure Crockett and for a formal investigation into the incident.
On Thursday, Downs was interviewed by the Capitol Police, who indicated that they had referred the case to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia. Notably, MAGA supporter Ed Martin currently serves as the interim United States Attorney for that jurisdiction.
In response to the incident involving Crockett and Downs, Martin commented this afternoon, stating:
“As I have said from Day One, no one is above the law. The matter is currently under review by law enforcement authorities.”
“If it is referred to the U.S. Attorney’s office, we will follow the proper procedures to determine whether charges are appropriate.”

Loomer appreciated Martin’s transparency but raised concerns about the Capitol Police’s credibility based on his statement.
“His statement implied that the Capitol Police have not yet referred the police report to the US Attorney’s office, despite the fact that US Capitol Police told Charles Downs last week that they referred the police report to the US Attorney’s office,” she noted. “Why are the Capitol Police lying?”

If Loomer’s assertions hold water, this could represent yet another instance of the alleged two-tiered justice system within the Capitol Police. A reminder of historical grievances lingers, such as the treatment of peaceful protesters on January 6, 2021, who were met with excessive force while simply exercising their First Amendment rights.
