As we inch closer to the election, the data suggest a tightening race. According to recent polling, the Virginia governor’s race has become a statistical deadlock. The Democratic camp is leaving no stone unturned to propel Abigail Spanberger across the finish line.
NBC News in Washington recently reported:
Barack Obama Throws Support Behind Abigail Spanberger in Virginia’s Gubernatorial Contest
The former President has publicly endorsed Democratic ex-Representative Abigail Spanberger in her bid for the governorship of Virginia, featuring in two new digital advertisements for her campaign.
“Virginia’s elections are among the most pivotal in the nation this year,” Obama asserts in both promotional spots shared exclusively with NBC News, emphasizing themes surrounding the economy and reproductive rights. He reiterates a key exhortation: “Every vote counts.”
This year, Virginia is one of only two states, alongside New Jersey, hosting gubernatorial elections. These races will be scrutinized for insights into voter sentiment regarding President Donald Trump and broader political trends ahead of the midterms in 2026.
Notably, Trump has yet to endorse any candidate in the race, which pits Spanberger against Republican Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earle-Sears.

The analysis on the state of the race is unsurprisingly revealing:
Oh my, it must be way too close for Democrats’ comfort. https://t.co/fyLQ3OF3Yo

Internal polls must look really bad.

A Black man tells Black voters to back the white candidate over the Black candidate. 100% on-brand for the Democrat party.

Wait, what? He’s not endorsing the Black woman?

If Winsome Sears were to win, she would make history as the first Black woman to serve as governor of Virginia. One could expect that to be a highlight for Barack Obama; however, her Republican affiliation seemingly nullifies that narrative.
Next time Democrats tout their commitment to diversity, it might be worth a second look.
