In a rather theatrical display, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene convened a hearing as the chair of the DOGE subcommittee, ostensibly to discuss the exclusion of transgender athletes from women’s sports. However, she found herself embroiled in controversy when she presented a doctored image of Damian Lehfeldt, the chair of USA Fencing.

As Greene began to pose her questions, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) interjected, asserting, “One moment. A point of order, please. Madam Chair, the document displayed behind you misrepresents the actual post. It seems you’re attempting to distort a witness’s testimony here.”
Rather than address the concerns raised, Greene dismissively retorted, “This is not a point of order, Ms. Stansbury. You’re out of line. I’m not recognizing you.” Greene continued her dismissal, reiterating, “This is not a point of order.”
Undeterred, Stansbury pressed on, stating, “You are misrepresenting both the witness and the committee’s intentions. This is not how we should conduct ourselves.”
Greene’s response was reminiscent of a child in a playground spat, insisting, “You’re not recognized. This isn’t a point of order. You’re abusing the committee’s rules.”
In an ironic twist of fate, Greene was utilizing the hearing to spotlight her anti-trans agenda under the guise of governmental efficiency. One must wonder how trans athletes and their participation in sports correlate with the Department of Government Efficiency—spoiler alert: they don’t.
The underlying motivation for Greene’s antics appears to be a strategic maneuver in her political aspirations, possibly eyeing a Senate run or a gubernatorial bid in Georgia. Her focus on culture war issues indicates a desire to fortify her position and expand her influence ahead of the 2026 elections.
While Greene attempted to frame the hearing as a noble pursuit to safeguard women in sports, the subtext was glaringly apparent: this was less about policy and more about self-aggrandizement amid a brewing culture war. The Democrats, recognizing the diversion tactics at play, effectively turned the hearing into a counterproductive spectacle for Greene.
