Alarm bells rang when the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office sought a trademark for the Board of Peace under Trump’s name.
Democrats in Congress have been opposing this trademark, fearing that it could enable Trump to financially benefit from the Board of Peace.
House Judiciary Democrats have successfully urged the Patent and Trademark Office to withdraw the application.
House Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) commented:
The USPTO’s decision to withdraw its troubling trademark applications for the ‘Board of Peace’ is a necessary and positive step. From the outset, the USPTO Director’s perplexing choice to pursue trademarks for Trump raised legal questions, especially since the Lanham Act prohibits applications on another’s behalf unless you are their attorney, which the Director had denied.
House Judiciary Committee Democrats have been actively probing whether the USPTO is being manipulated to obscure the true owner of what seems to be an unregulated global fund supported by both foreign governments and U.S. taxpayers, yet seemingly controlled by Trump, the Board’s proclaimed ‘Chairman for Life.’
The setup and dubious nature of the Board of Peace should indeed be a cause for concern, as underscored by the leading House Judiciary Committee Democrat.
