Democrats Turn The Tables And Demand Mike Johnson Reopen The House To Pay The Troops

In every election cycle, the Republican party tends to invest substantial sums touting their unwavering support for the military. However, these declarations often clash with the realities faced by our service members.

When it comes to crucial veterans’ services, medical care, proper housing, and fair salaries for those who protect our nation, Republican policies paradoxically tend to favor the affluent at the expense of the very troops they claim to champion.

Time is of the essence, as members of the armed forces are poised to miss their first paycheck if Congress does not act by October 15th. Interestingly, it is a coalition of ten Democratic representatives—rather than their Republican counterparts—who are urging Speaker Mike Johnson to reconvene the House and initiate legislation to ensure military personnel receive their pay during the government shutdown.

The ten representatives, including Gabe Vasquez (NM), Derek Tran (CA), Wesley Bell (MO), Angie Craig (MN), Steven Horsford (NV), Susie Lee (NV), Ted Lieu (CA), Pat Ryan (NY), Andrea Salinas (OR), and Tom Suozzi (NY), have made their position clear.

In a decisive letter to Speaker Johnson, they stated:

We urge you to bring forward legislation to guarantee payment for America’s service members in time for the October 15th deadline. A failure to act by this date will result in nearly three million military families missing their paychecks. This situation is untenable; our military families and servicemen deserve far better.
