Investigation Launched into Inmate’s Death at Denver’s Downtown Detention Center

Denver police are currently investigating the death of an inmate at the city’s Downtown Detention Center that occurred on Wednesday night, as reported by the sheriff’s department.

The man was found unresponsive in his housing unit around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the city’s sheriff’s department. In response, a medical emergency team was summoned to the unit and attempted life-saving measures, but unfortunately, the inmate passed away shortly after.

Per standard protocol, the Denver Police Department will be conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the in-custody death, as confirmed by sheriff’s officials.

Identification of the deceased inmate and the cause of death will be disclosed by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner at a later time, following notification of the man’s family.
