A Denver police officer was injured in a crash on Wednesday night during a protest at the Colorado State Capitol. Thousands gathered to demonstrate against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and the raids that took place across metro Denver earlier that day.
The officer, who was on a motorcycle, was struck by a car at the intersection of West 13th Avenue and Elati Street, just east of Speer Boulevard. The Denver Police Department issued a statement at 7:07 p.m. confirming the incident.
According to Denver7, the officer was providing traffic support at the intersection when the crash occurred. The officer, who has not been identified, sustained serious injuries and was transported to the hospital. The driver involved in the crash remained at the scene, and police stated that the incident was not intentional.
West 13th Avenue was temporarily closed for the cleanup and investigation of the crash but reopened later that night.
