A Historic Denver Building Reopens as a Cafe and Beer Garden
Once an elementary school and later artist studios, the stately brick building known as the Evans School is now home to the Schoolyard Beer Garden and Schoolyard Cafe. Located at 1115 Acoma St., this historic building was constructed in 1904 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
City Street Investors, along with partners Fred and Jerry Glick, purchased the building for $11 million in 2019. Originally planned as a co-working space, the pandemic delayed the opening, leading to the transformation into a public space. The cafe offers a variety of food and drink options, including panini sandwiches, salads, wine, and frozen rose slushies.

The adjacent beer garden features Colorado brews on tap and a menu of pub fare. The building’s rich history is preserved throughout, with original design plans on display and unique artwork adorning the walls.
Renovations have revitalized the 35,000-square-foot building, maintaining its historical charm while enhancing the amenities for visitors. The outdoor space, described as the best in the Golden Triangle neighborhood, offers a welcoming environment for guests to enjoy.
