Kids are often full of creativity and potential, with big ideas on how to make the world a better place. To tap into this innovative spirit, we have created an Invention Planning Worksheet that will guide students through the process of brainstorming, designing, and implementing their ideas.

First and foremost, it’s essential to inspire students to think deeply about a problem they would like to solve. By introducing them to the world of inventors and their inventions, including those created by kids, we can spark their interest and encourage them to see things from a different perspective. By reading books, articles, and watching engaging videos, students can begin to develop their own ideas and solutions to real-world issues.

Using the Invention Planning Worksheet, students can record the identified problem and brainstorm possible solutions. This hands-on activity allows them to work individually or in small groups to come up with viable invention options. By encouraging students to choose an idea they feel passionate about, they can begin to formulate a concrete solution to the problem at hand.

Once students have chosen their invention idea, it’s time to dive into the details of the design process. Introducing them to the engineering design process (EDP) will help them map out what their invention will look like and what materials they will need to bring their idea to life. The worksheet serves as a valuable tool for students to document their progress and plan out the steps needed to create their invention.

The worksheet can also be used in conjunction with STEM challenges to further engage students in hands-on learning. Whether they are studying weather, propulsion, or participating in the Egg Drop Challenge, the worksheet can be adapted to fit a variety of STEM activities and projects. This versatile tool will help students think critically, problem-solve, and innovate in a fun and engaging way.
