Venice: A Cultural Crossroads for Fashion Inspiration
Venice, originally known as La Serenissima (“The Most Serene”), is a city filled with complex history, mystique, and intrigue. It has captured the hearts of many, including renowned fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg, who found inspiration for her fall collection in the historic metropolis.
DVF’s creative director, Nathan Jenden, describes Venice as a cultural crossroads, much like New York City. The city’s rich tapestry of textiles, interiors, and exchange of ideas has drawn in designers such as Rick Owens and Dries Van Noten. Jenden notes that Venice, with its variety and diversity, offers a plethora of characters whose dress is as dynamic as their bustling lives.
In DVF’s fall collection, this diversity is reflected in a mix of house-designed prints on various textiles like lace, tulle, and leather. The collection features bold ’70s psychedelic colors, disco prints, and a variety of textures such as corduroy and knit. One standout design element is a python pattern that is creatively shrunk, blown up, and reimagined on different garments.
Whether you prefer vibrant prints or subtle textures, Venice—and DVF—welcomes all personas. Just like the city itself, the fall collection captures the essence of sartorial contradictions and offers a wardrobe that celebrates individuality and style.
