Disney+ has made a groundbreaking move by securing a multi-year content partnership with CJ ENM to introduce Tving’s premium content to the Japanese audience for the first time. This collaboration will bring up to 60 of Tving’s top-performing originals and CJ ENM drama series to Disney+ Japan, starting from November 5. Fans can look forward to popular titles like “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and “Reply 1988” among others.
One of the highlights of this partnership is the exclusive streaming of “Dear X” on Disney+ Japan, starring Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Young-dae, and Kim Do-hoon. The series will debut on November 6 simultaneously with its release in Korea. To showcase the expanded Korean content library, Disney+ Japan will introduce a dedicated feature called “Tving Highlights” on its homepage, giving subscribers easy access to a curated selection of emotionally driven and genre-defining series from Tving.
Tamotsu Hiiro, managing director of The Walt Disney Company (Japan) Ltd., expressed excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the commitment to diversifying content offerings to cater to the preferences of Japanese audiences. Julie Choi, CEO of Tving, sees this partnership as a strategic move to expand the platform’s global presence and reach a broader audience beyond Korea.
Tony Zameczkowski, senior VP and GM of DTC for Asia Pacific at The Walt Disney Company, described the collaboration as a pivotal moment in their regional content strategy. He highlighted the growing popularity of Korean storytelling worldwide and the opportunity to deepen the connection with Japanese viewers through this partnership.
This deal builds on Disney+’s existing Korean and Japanese content slate, adding to the platform’s diverse range of offerings. With this partnership, Disney+ aims to strengthen its Korean content library and enhance its presence in one of the world’s most dynamic streaming markets. The introduction of Tving’s content to Disney+ Japan marks a significant step forward in expanding the platform’s global reach and offering a wide variety of content to its subscribers.
