John Oliver dedicated a significant portion of his latest episode of “Last Week Tonight” on September 21 to discussing the indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel at ABC. Delving into the various developments of the past week and the corporate entities involved, Oliver took the opportunity to address Disney CEO Bob Iger directly.

In a humorous tone, Oliver introduced himself to Iger, referencing his role as America’s third favorite Zazu in “The Lion King.” He also acknowledged the recasting of the role, which he humorously learned about after the fact. Transitioning into a more serious tone, Oliver highlighted the importance of accountability in the current political climate.

Oliver expressed his belief that history will not only remember those directly involved in the administration, but also the individuals who stood by and allowed certain actions to take place. He emphasized the need to stand up against injustices, even if it means taking risks or facing backlash. Referencing recent events, including Trump’s comments about Kimmel and Seth Meyers, Oliver urged business leaders to draw a line and resist unreasonable demands.

Using colorful language, Oliver encouraged individuals to push back against bullies and assert their own agency. He emphasized the power of standing up for oneself and refusing to be intimidated. By using the phrase “Fuck you, make me,” Oliver suggested that strength and resilience are key in facing adversity.

Overall, Oliver’s message to Disney CEO Bob Iger and other business leaders was clear: do not succumb to pressure or intimidation, but instead, stand firm and assert your own boundaries. By taking a stand and refusing to be pushed around, individuals can make a powerful statement and potentially effect change in challenging times.
