TelevisaUnivision and Disney Strengthen Partnership to Expand Streaming Offerings
TelevisaUnivision and Disney are forging closer ties in the ever-evolving media landscape, where collaboration between companies is becoming increasingly common to reach a wider audience for their streaming services.
Beginning June 3, Spanish-language powerhouse TelevisaUnivision will be featured on Disney’s Hulu+Live service, showcasing popular networks such as Univision, UniMás, TUDN, and Galavisión as part of its core channel lineup. Moreover, TelevisaUnivision channels like N+FORO, tlNovelas, Bandamax, and more will be added to the Español add-on for Hulu+ Live TV subscribers in the future.
In a strategic move, the two companies will also offer a bundled package of the Spanish-language streamer ViX and Disney+ in Mexico starting early June, catering to a diverse audience with a wide array of content.
Rafael Urbina, president of streaming and digital at TelevisaUnivision, emphasized the significance of this partnership, stating, “TelevisaUnivision is the top producer of Spanish-language content globally, and this deal underscores our pivotal role in the pay TV landscape and the continued growth of our direct-to-consumer business through ViX.”
As the streaming industry continues to evolve, major media companies are forming unconventional alliances to expand their reach and offer comprehensive packages to consumers. The collaboration between Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery in 2024, for instance, introduced a bundle including Disney+, Hulu, and Max, reflecting a shift towards consolidated streaming services akin to traditional cable subscriptions.
Lauren Tempest, general manager of Hulu and executive vice president of direct-to-consumer content partnerships, highlighted the strategic value of the partnership, stating, “This new collaboration allows us to enhance our channel lineup and Spanish-language content on Hulu+ Live TV while providing subscribers in Mexico with a compelling option to access both Disney and TelevisaUnivision content in a single package.”
