The shocking incident that took place at Disney World in October 2024, where a woman was brutally attacked in front of parkgoers, has taken a new turn as the victim has been identified as the attacker’s own mother.

The attacker, Matthew Edward Cameron, 22, was captured on video being restrained by bystanders at the Magic Kingdom theme park in Orlando after he allegedly assaulted a woman near Casey’s Corner, a popular hot dog stand in the park. It has now come to light that the woman he attacked was none other than his mother, Diane Marie Cameron.

According to a report from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Deputy Dominic Gonzalez detailed the events of the incident, stating that Matthew Cameron pushed his mother’s face away from him before punching her in the face, causing her to fall to the ground with a bloody nose.

Despite the shocking nature of the attack, it was revealed that Cameron and his family, including his mother and sister Sarah, were on vacation at Disney World at the time. Video footage of the incident showed his sister and mother holding napkins to their noses after the assault, while Cameron was subdued by onlookers.

Witnesses to the attack described the disturbing scene, with one individual, Michael Williams, recounting how he saw Cameron punch his mother in front of his family, leaving her with visible injuries. Williams took action by tackling Cameron to the ground and holding him until authorities arrived.

Following his arrest, Cameron admitted to assaulting his mother out of frustration during an argument, with Deputy Gonzalez noting that he was not thinking clearly at the time. His mother also disclosed to police that her son had a history of severe schizophrenia, which had sometimes led to violent outbursts in the past.

Despite the serious nature of the incident, prosecutors decided to drop the domestic assault charge against Cameron during a court hearing in January. The reasons for this decision remain unclear.

Both Cameron’s mother and sister have been identified as frequent visitors to Disney World, as evidenced by their social media posts from previous trips. The incident has left a lasting impact on parkgoers, with one eyewitness recalling the chaos and Disney staff members working to shield children from the violence.

In the aftermath of the attack, security measures at Disney parks have reportedly been increased, with a greater presence of security personnel observed by visitors. The incident serves as a reminder of the need for vigilance and safety in public spaces, even in the most magical of places.
