A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Queens as a 16-year-old boy, Sincere Jazmin, was shot dead in the doorway of a bodega. The tragic moment was captured on video, showcasing the heartbreaking reality of the senseless violence that took Sincere’s life. The incident occurred after Sincere had just gotten off a Q83 bus on Liberty Avenue near 172nd Street in Jamaica around 2:40 p.m. on a Wednesday afternoon. Investigators believe that the shooting may have been a result of an ongoing school feud.
Sincere’s father, Terrell Kanston, expressed his devastation and grief over the loss of his son, describing Sincere as a good kid who only wanted to show love to everyone. Kanston pleaded for justice, stating, “They gonna reap what they sow, you know. I want justice, yes.”
The heart-wrenching video footage from inside the store shows the injured Sincere, wearing a backpack, sitting down on a step in front of the corner store after stumbling across the street following the shooting. Despite his obvious distress, Sincere did not raise an alarm for help from passersby outside the bodega. Moments later, he collapsed in the doorway of the store, catching the attention of a beer deliveryman who had just left the scene.
The video depicts the deliveryman trying to communicate with Sincere, who was unable to respond, and eventually calling 911 for help. The gravely injured teen attempted to sit up but was unable to do so before collapsing once again. Several onlookers, including a man and a woman who appeared to be customers, gathered around Sincere before police arrived on the scene to provide assistance.
Despite the efforts of medics who rushed Sincere to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, he could not be saved. His grieving father visited the deli where the tragic incident occurred, shaking hands with the store manager, Kenny Patel, and expressing his gratitude. Kanston described his son as a student at John Adams High School in Ozone Park who simply wanted to be the best. The family is devastated by the loss of Sincere, and Kanston called for justice for his son.
As Kanston stood outside the store, reflecting on the violence that took his son’s life, he struggled to find the words to express his pain and ultimately drove away in silence. Despite the lack of arrests in connection with the fatal shooting, authorities are searching for the shooter, described as wearing a black vest over a gray hoodie and a mask.
The tragic death of Sincere Jazmin serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of senseless violence in our communities. The loss of a young life like Sincere’s is a heartbreaking tragedy that has left a family grieving and a community in mourning.
He had to know his killer.
