Chicago police are actively searching for a suspect after a man was fatally shot while riding a Divvy Bike in Grant Park during the night.
According to the Chicago Police Department, the 27-year-old victim was cycling on the sidewalk in the 300 block of East Jackson Drive when he was shot in the upper leg at approximately 12:18 a.m. This location is situated between the Art Institute of Chicago and Lake Shore Drive. He was transported in critical condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, but unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, leading to his death from the injuries.
Witnesses reported seeing a group of people and vehicles near the victim at the time of the shooting, with several displaying what appeared to be Puerto Rican flags. When the gunfire erupted, the crowd reportedly dispersed.
A police officer who examined surveillance footage noted that the video captured a man aiming a gun at the victim. However, it remains uncertain whether this individual fired the fatal shot or if another person in the crowd was also armed. The man seen on camera was described as Black, dressed in a black t-shirt, gray pants, and a black ski mask that left his face visible.
At the scene, officers discovered evidence including a Divvy bike, a shell casing, and several bottles of alcohol. No arrests had been made by Tuesday morning.
