Washington:
US President Donald Trump lashed out at a NBC reporter during a meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the White House. The reporter had questioned the Pentagon’s decision to modify a Qatari Boeing 747 for future use as Air Force One. Trump criticized the reporter for diverting attention from more critical issues, such as violence against white farmers in South Africa.
Trump accused NBC and its parent company’s CEO, Brian Roberts, of being a “disgrace” and suggested they should be investigated. He defended the Qatari gift, emphasizing its value to the US Air Force and the additional investments made by Qatar.
The Defence Department spokesperson confirmed the acceptance of the Boeing 747 from Qatar for presidential use after necessary modifications. Trump clarified on social media that the jet was a gift to the US Government, not to him personally. The estimated value of the plane is USD 400 million, offered by Qatar’s royal family.
