Döppel Studio, a Paris-based collaboration between Lionel Dinis Salazar and Jonathan Omar, draws inspiration from ancient Greek amphorae for their latest collection, Néophore. These vessels, traditionally used for storing liquids and grains like wine, oil, and cereal, featured a narrow neck and large oval body with handles on each side for easy transport.
The Néophore series combines terracotta and enamel vessels with glowing neon tubes that intersect like handle-like structures. Blurring the lines between sculpture, vessel, and lamp, this collection offers a contemporary take on the ancient form, exploring the relationship between form and function in a sophisticated yet playful manner.
To bring their vision to life, Salazar and Omar collaborated with ceramicist Aliénor Martineau, known for her expertise in mineral-based natural glazes. Together, they customized a reflective enamel that would come alive under the light, adding an extra layer of visual interest to the pieces.
For those interested in experiencing Néophore in person, the collection is currently on display at ToolsGalerie in Paris until January 11. To learn more about Döppel Studio and their work, visit their website.
