‘Double Standard!’: Roseanne Barr Blasts Jimmy Kimmel Comeback Seven Years After ABC Fired Her from Iconic Sitcom

Roseanne Barr, known for her outspoken Republican views, has expressed her dismay at being ostracized by Hollywood following controversial comments that led to her removal from the revival of her hit sitcom, Roseanne. While her co-stars distanced themselves from her after her comments in 2018 about former Obama official Valerie Jarrett, Jimmy Kimmel recently faced a different fate, being pulled from air after discussing the death of a MAGA influencer.

Upon witnessing Kimmel’s return to the show, Barr lamented, “I got my whole life ruined, no forgiveness and all of my work stolen, and I’m called a racist for something I never intended.” She pointed out the evident double standards in the industry’s treatment of different entertainers, adding, “I’ve been erased from history, especially in the context of feminism. It’s ironic.”

Implying censorship, she remarked that many who owe their careers to her are now reluctant to discuss her contributions, particularly when censorship is the topic of conversation.

The downfall began when Barr tweeted something deemed racially insensitive about Jarrett, leading to her abrupt exit from her own rebooted show in 2018. Although she later apologized and claimed ignorance about Jarrett’s racial background, the damage was done. ABC executives, including chief Channing Dungey, made the decision to sever ties with Barr, in no small part because of the backlash from fellow cast members and the public.

Critics, including Kimmel himself, publicly condemned Barr’s tweet, labelling it as “indefensible.” Kimmel’s critique contributed to the growing public uproar that ultimately sealed Barr’s fate.

To avoid further fallout, Barr relinquished her rights to royalties from the show, which originally aired for nine successful seasons. The revival of Roseanne was a top-rated show on ABC, but was subsequently rebranded as The Conners after Barr’s departure, managing to limp along for seven more seasons before concluding in recent months.

Barr criticized the network’s leniency towards other personalities, including Kimmel and Whoopi Goldberg, who also faced temporary suspension for her misstatements about the Holocaust. Barr argues, “It’s astonishing how ABC decides to protect the lower-rated shows while destroying their top-rated ones. It doesn’t make sense.”
