Douglas County Unveils State-of-the-Art Wildfire Response Technology
Officials in Douglas County have revealed their latest arsenal in the fight against wildfires, showcasing a new firefighting helicopter and cutting-edge artificial intelligence-powered cameras.
After signing a $1.5 million deal earlier this year, the county now has access to a helicopter capable of dropping up to 300 gallons of water at a time, as stated in a county news release.
The helicopter took to the skies for the first time at a demonstration organized by the county last Friday.
Commissioner Abe Laydon emphasized that Douglas County is leading the way in Colorado by having its own dedicated firefighting helicopter and crew available year-round.
In addition to the helicopter, the county is utilizing cameras equipped with Pano AI software, which played a crucial role in detecting and containing a wildfire in the Bennett Mountain area above Strontia Springs Reservoir last year.
âWe are proactively building a wildfire response system that leverages the latest technology to safeguard lives, property, and our environment,â stated Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly.
