Alefes Silva, a talented illustrator based in Bogotá, explores the intricate relationship between memory and the present in his captivating artworks. Themes of stillness, solitude, growth, death, love, and heartbreak are prevalent in his drawings, where he skillfully combines fantastical plants and animals with human elements. One piece features a nude figure with trees and shrubs sprouting from its back, while another showcases a red sapling emerging from a red-headed woman.

Silva’s work is deeply personal, with each element holding significant meaning tied to a moment in memory, a dream, or a desire. Beyond his personal projects, he also takes on editorial commissions for magazines and publishers. Currently, he is working on four illustrated books, including a gardening diary and explorations of birds and grasshoppers.

You can experience Silva’s surreal world firsthand at the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre in a group exhibition running until November 30, as well as at MountEchó later this month. To delve deeper into his mesmerizing creations, visit his profiles on Behance and Instagram.

In his illustrations, an open sketchbook reveals a white, bird-like creature greeting a tiny man in a forest, a red tree growing out of the chest of a red-headed woman, red plants sprouting from a wolf and a red-hooded figure, a human face emerging from a lush garden with a red cat prowling nearby, a tree growing into a house with a man peering through a window, and a leaf sprouting from the mouth of a human figure, repeated as a silhouette and plant rendering.
