William Andrade (Chicago Police Department)

Suburban Man Charged with Reckless Homicide in Fatal Crash

A tragic incident occurred on January 30, 2025, in West Rogers Park when a 26-year-old man, William Andrade, of Rolling Meadows, drove recklessly in a residential area, causing a fatal crash. Andrade was driving 67 mph when he ran a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old boy, as revealed by prosecutors.

According to Assistant State’s Attorney Mike Pekara, Andrade was returning home from work at a fast-food restaurant with a co-worker as his passenger when the incident occurred. The co-worker recounted that Andrade accelerated towards the intersection of Albany and Rosemont without slowing down for the stop sign, ultimately crashing into an SUV crossing the intersection.

The impact was severe, causing the SUV to spin and overturn onto a nearby sidewalk. Data analysis from the vehicles indicated that Andrade was traveling at 67 mph, while the SUV was moving at 14 mph at the time of the collision. Tragically, the 14-year-old boy in the back seat of the SUV sustained fatal injuries and passed away two days later at Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Andrade admitted to authorities that he was speeding and failed to stop at the stop sign. Pekara also highlighted Andrade’s history of traffic violations, including previous speeding citations and involvement in a collision causing personal injury in the past year.

Despite the severity of the charges, Judge Ankur Srivastava opted not to detain Andrade but instead ordered him to wear an ankle monitor and remain under house arrest 24 hours a day.
