A 31-year-old man’s King’s Birthday Weekend holiday was abruptly cut short after being caught by Oamaru Police for driving while five times over the breath alcohol limit. The man, who was on his way from Christchurch to Invercargill, was reported by a concerned member of the public for driving dangerously on State Highway 1. Oamaru police swiftly intercepted the vehicle in town and discovered the driver’s breath alcohol level was over five times the legal limit. The man was promptly arrested, charged with excess breath alcohol, and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Police emphasized the importance of road safety during the holiday weekend, reminding motorists to prioritize restraints, avoid impairment from alcohol and drugs, minimize distractions, and obey speed limits. They urged the public to report any unsafe driving behavior or emergencies immediately. It is crucial for everyone on the road to reach their destinations safely. If you witness any concerning incidents, please contact the authorities promptly.

Thank you to the vigilant member of the public who reported the dangerous driving, helping prevent a potential tragedy on the roads.
