Dropbox’s Chief Customer Officer, Eric Cox, to Step Down

Dropbox’s chief customer officer, Eric Cox, is planning to step down from his role, according to a document filed with the SEC on Friday. Cox will continue in his current position for a transitional period to aid with the handover process, as stated in the filing. Following this transition period, he will remain with the company as a “non-executive” employee until mid-August.

When reached for comment, Dropbox did not immediately respond to the request.

Eric Cox joined Dropbox in November 2023, coming from Vimeo where he served as the COO overseeing various key areas such as sales, customer success, data, strategy, and operations. Prior to his time at Vimeo, Cox spent nearly two decades at Adobe in various roles, including digital media go-to-market sales lead for the Americas and VP of digital media for business.

In a blog post announcing Cox’s hiring, Dropbox expressed their confidence in his extensive SaaS and B2B experience, industry knowledge, and dedication to customers. They believe his expertise will be crucial as the company introduces new products and enters its next phase of growth.

Despite beating Wall Street estimates in its most recent fiscal quarter, Dropbox has faced challenges with slowing revenue growth and a light guidance for the current quarter, leading to an 8% decline in the company’s stock year-to-date. As part of a turnaround strategy, Dropbox announced last October that it would be reducing its workforce by 20%, affecting approximately 528 employees.

Looking towards the future, Dropbox has been increasingly leveraging AI technologies as a potential revenue driver. The company recently enhanced its AI-powered smart organization and search tool, Dropbox Dash, with features tailored for enterprises, including data governance controls.
