A Long Island teenager is facing serious charges after driving the wrong way on the Henry Hudson Parkway and causing a fatal crash just 24 hours before the victim’s wedding. The tragic incident involved alleged drunk driving and a chase by an off-duty NYPD officer.
Jimmy Connors, 17, reportedly spent the night drinking at Nebula on West 41st Street, where he was served alcohol despite being visibly intoxicated. This led to the horrific collision on August 24, as detailed in a lawsuit.
After leaving the club, Connors got behind the wheel of a white Chevy Silverado and crashed into another vehicle. Instead of calling 911, off-duty officer Boubacar Barry pursued Connors in his personal SUV after witnessing the crash.
The vehicles continued in the wrong direction on the parkway, resulting in a head-on collision with a car driven by Kirk Walker and his cousin, Rob McLaurin. Both Walker and McLaurin lost their lives in the tragic accident.
Walker and McLaurin were returning from the bachelor party when the crash occurred near West 154th Street. Walker’s fiancée, Shauntea Weaver, filed a lawsuit against Connors, Barry, Nebula, the NYPD, and the city.
Connors fled the scene, leaving behind his injured passenger, who was later apprehended by the police. Mayor Eric Adams even offered a reward to help capture Connors.
Connors was eventually apprehended at the Canadian border and indicted on charges including second-degree murder and leaving the scene of a fatal crash. He pleaded not guilty, with his attorney citing his health conditions as a factor in the incident.
Walker, a successful business owner and father, was on the brink of starting a new chapter in his life with Weaver. The loss has left Weaver and Walker’s loved ones devastated.
Weaver’s lawsuit holds Barry and Nebula accountable for their roles in the tragedy, seeking damages for wrongful death, negligence, and emotional suffering.
The legal battle continues as Weaver seeks justice for the untimely loss of her fiancé and the pain caused by the reckless actions of those involved in the crash.
