A loyal dog stubbornly resisted attempts by officers to guide him home, instead leading them to his owner’s elderly mother, who had collapsed during a nighttime stroll.
On September 25, a deputy from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report about a missing senior citizen in Destin, Florida. A distressed man stood at his doorstep, explaining that his 86-year-old wife had not returned from a walk with their adult child’s dog, as seen in body camera footage.
“She usually takes that dog for a stroll, but it never lasts more than 10 or 15 minutes. It’s been over an hour now,” he shared anxiously.
Deputy Devon Miller, who had previously rescued a cat from a drainage ditch, quickly found the wandering dog, Eeyore, ambling down the street. She stopped her vehicle to greet the overjoyed pup, who responded with enthusiastic licks.
“Where’s your mama? Lead me to your mama,” Miller encouraged.
Eeyore turned and started guiding Miller into the darkened neighborhood while still attached to his leash.
A few moments later, Miller discovered the senior woman lying on the sidewalk. Although she isn’t visible in the footage, Miller described her as “alert and conscious” but possibly injured.
“[Eeyore] wouldn’t abandon me. He kept returning to my side. He ran to my car, and I asked him to take me to mommy, and he led me right here,” Miller recounted to the amazed woman.
“Good boy! Very good boy. I’m not even his owner; I’m his grandma. Oh, you’re such a good boy!” the woman exclaimed gratefully.
The dog was soon showered with affectionate pats and kisses.
