The past three years have been the hottest on record globally, with the average temperature exceeding 1.5 degrees Celsius above preindustrial levels. This threshold is associated with increased risks to biodiversity, human health, and extreme weather events.

Climate scientist Samantha Burgess from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) highlighted the significance of every half a degree increase in global temperatures. She emphasized that while 1.5 degrees Celsius is not a cliff edge, it is crucial to monitor and address the impacts of rising temperatures.

2025 saw a slight decrease in global temperatures compared to the previous two years, averaging 1.47 degrees above preindustrial levels. However, Earth is still warming faster than it was a decade ago, and projections indicate that the planet will consistently exceed the 1.5-degree threshold by 2029.

In 2024, Earth experienced its hottest year on record, with temperatures averaging 1.6 degrees above the preindustrial period. Despite a cooling trend in the tropics in 2025, Antarctica recorded its hottest year, while the Arctic experienced its second-hottest year. Sea ice at both poles reached record lows, reflecting the ongoing impact of rising temperatures.

The primary driver of these temperature increases is the accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, primarily from the burning of fossil fuels. Burgess emphasized the urgent need to address these emissions to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

While 2025 entered a neutral or weak La Niña phase, typically associated with cooler temperatures, it still ranked as the warmest La Niña year on record. High sea surface temperatures were observed throughout the year, despite the absence of El Niño conditions.

Extreme weather events, including wildfires, heatwaves, and heavy rainfall, were widespread in 2025. The World Weather Attribution consortium of climate scientists reported an increase in days with heat stress, defined as temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

Looking ahead, Burgess noted that it is too early to predict if 2026 will surpass the records set in 2024. However, there is an 80 percent chance that at least one of the next five years will exceed the temperatures observed in 2024.

The trend of rising global temperatures underscores the urgent need for action to address climate change. The past 11 years have been the hottest on record, and Burgess emphasized the likelihood of 2026 continuing this trend. It is essential for policymakers, businesses, and individuals to take proactive steps to combat climate change and limit its impact on the planet. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in sustainable living practices as people become more aware of the impact their lifestyle choices have on the environment. From reducing waste to conserving energy, there are many ways individuals can make a positive impact on the planet. One of the most effective ways to live sustainably is by incorporating green building practices into our homes and communities.

Green building, also known as sustainable building or eco-friendly building, is a process that focuses on creating structures that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout their lifecycle. This includes everything from the design and construction of a building to its operation and maintenance.

There are many benefits to green building, both for the environment and for the people who live or work in these structures. One of the most significant advantages of green building is its positive impact on the environment. By using sustainable materials, reducing energy consumption, and implementing water-saving technologies, green buildings help to lower carbon emissions and reduce waste.

In addition to benefiting the environment, green buildings also provide a healthier and more comfortable living environment for their occupants. By using non-toxic materials and improving indoor air quality, green buildings can help reduce the risk of respiratory problems and other health issues. Additionally, green buildings are often designed to maximize natural light and ventilation, creating spaces that are more pleasant to live and work in.

Another important benefit of green building is its cost-effectiveness. While green building practices may require a larger upfront investment, the long-term savings can be significant. By reducing energy and water consumption, green buildings can lower utility bills and save money over time. Additionally, green buildings often have higher property values and can attract more tenants or buyers.

There are many ways individuals can incorporate green building practices into their homes. This can include using sustainable materials such as bamboo flooring or recycled glass countertops, installing energy-efficient appliances and lighting, and implementing water-saving fixtures like low-flow toilets and showerheads. Additionally, individuals can consider adding solar panels or other renewable energy sources to their homes to further reduce their carbon footprint.

In conclusion, green building is an important aspect of sustainable living that can have a positive impact on the environment and the health and well-being of individuals. By incorporating green building practices into our homes and communities, we can help create a more sustainable future for generations to come. The world of technology is constantly evolving, with new innovations and advancements being made every day. One of the most exciting developments in recent years has been the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning.

AI and machine learning are revolutionizing the way we interact with technology, making it possible for machines to learn from data and make decisions without human intervention. This has led to significant advancements in a wide range of fields, from healthcare and finance to marketing and entertainment.

One area where AI and machine learning are having a major impact is in the field of autonomous vehicles. Companies like Tesla, Google, and Uber are all working on developing self-driving cars that can navigate roads safely and efficiently without human input.

These autonomous vehicles use a combination of sensors, cameras, and AI algorithms to analyze their surroundings and make decisions in real-time. They can detect obstacles, pedestrians, and other vehicles on the road, and adjust their speed and direction accordingly.

AI and machine learning are also being used to improve the efficiency of transportation systems. For example, cities are using AI algorithms to optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, and improve public transportation services. This can help reduce carbon emissions, save time and money for commuters, and make cities more livable.

In the healthcare industry, AI and machine learning are being used to improve patient care and outcomes.
