Two men, Rachaun “Munna Duke” Vance and Derrell “YoungginFromDaJetz” Givens, were tragically killed in a targeted shooting outside of a late-night bar and restaurant in Edgewater early Saturday morning. Reports indicate that at least two gunmen opened fire on the men as they left Porkchop at 6331 North Broadway around 1:20 a.m. A third man, aged 36, was also shot but survived the attack.
Rachaun Vance, 31, who had recently had a Class X armed habitual criminal gun case against him dropped by prosecutors, was known to be a high-ranking member of the O Block street gang. Derrell Givens, 28, was a fellow rapper known by the stage name YoungginFromDaJetz. Both men were described as influential figures in their community, with a Chicago rap vlogger noting that they were respected not only online but in real life.
Following the shooting, an investigation revealed that the gunmen fled the scene in a stolen Infinity Q50, which was later found abandoned and set on fire in the 600 block of East 134th Place. As of Monday afternoon, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
In response to the tragic loss of Vance, the mother of his child, FatFat Banks, took to Instagram to express her grief and disbelief. She shared heartfelt memories of their time together and vowed to keep their son safe in his absence.
In light of the shooting, the city has temporarily closed Porkchop while the owners work on developing a plan that meets the requirements of the Chicago Police Department and the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection. This is not the first time the venue has faced scrutiny, as it was previously shut down in December 2023 due to safety and permit violations.
This latest incident underscores the ongoing challenges faced by communities affected by gun violence in Chicago. The loss of Rachaun Vance and Derrell Givens has left a void in their families and the local music scene, prompting calls for justice and action to prevent further tragedies.
