EFD Studios, a leading tech rentals company with locations in Mexico, Colombia, the U.S., and Spain, has revealed plans to establish the largest virtual set in Europe. The new facility will span over 2,000 square meters and be equipped with cutting-edge LED technology and state-of-the-art computer and processing capabilities. The announcement was made by Georgina Terán, the CEO of EFD Studios, during the Iberseries & Platino Industria industry forum in Madrid.
Situated in Boadilla del Monte, just a short drive west of Madrid, the virtual set will occupy a significant portion of EFD Studios’ 5,000 square meter headquarters in Spain. The company is currently undergoing renovations to prepare the space for operations, with an expected launch date no later than the second quarter of 2025. This permanent LED volume will cater not only to local productions but also to large-scale international projects from major studios that are already clients of EFD Studios.
EFD Studios has a strong presence in Mexico, supplying top-of-the-line equipment for various high-profile productions. In Spain, the company has been collaborating with its other headquarters to expand its services in rentals and post-production. With a focus on technological innovation, EFD Studios is making a bold move into virtual production to promote sustainability in the industry.
Georgina Terán emphasized the importance of nurturing local talent in Spain and Mexico to support the growth of the audiovisual sector. To achieve this, EFD Studios has introduced two initiatives: Circa 24 and the EFD Studios Academy. Circa 24, in partnership with Mexico’s Animal de Luz Films, will provide film training in Mexico to develop emerging talent in both creative and technical aspects of the industry. On the other hand, the EFD Studios Academy in Spain will offer technical training to professionals looking to enhance their skills and meet the demands of the regional market.
By investing in training and development initiatives, EFD Studios aims to support the local industry while staying at the forefront of technological advancements. The establishment of the largest virtual set in Europe marks a significant milestone for the company as it continues to expand its footprint in the global entertainment industry.
