A tragic incident unfolded in a senior living facility in Arizona, where a 92-year-old man took the life of his 93-year-old wife before ending his own life in a suspected murder-suicide, according to police.
Jerome Woolums was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, still holding the firearm, after allegedly shooting his wife, Katharine, in their bedroom at a Mesa assisted living center early Thursday morning, around 4 a.m., as reported by the Mesa Police Department. Fox10 Phoenix detailed.
Authorities confirmed that Jerome was declared dead at the location.
Despite the tragic scene, Katharine had a pulse and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later.
“This case is being treated as a murder-suicide,” a police spokesperson reported to The Arizona Republic.
“Current evidence suggests that Jerome shot his wife, Katharine, before taking his own life.”
Investigators indicated that the couple had been married for several years and were residing at the unnamed senior home close to Alma School Road and Mendoza Avenue, where they were receiving ongoing medical support.
The motive behind this unfortunate shooting remains a part of ongoing investigations.
